And boy, was he right!\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We know that not all employees embrace <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">training and development opportunities<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with open arms. In fact, for some employees, words like \u201cworkplace training\u201d and \u201ceLearning courses\u201d can be downright fear-inspiring.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These learners could be concerned about the time pressure when having to juggle work and training. Or they might see training programs as a way to scrutinize their competence, rather than an <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">opportunity for growth and development<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. And others are just scared of failing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the other hand, we\u2019ve all come across the eager learner, you know, that person who just leaps at every <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">training and development opportunity<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Learners who not only consider how training can impact their careers at the time, but also recognize the potential lifetime value.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These self-driven, learning enthusiasts all have something in common &#8211; they share the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">qualities of empowered learners<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Identifying the Qualities of Empowered Learners<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now, don\u2019t mistake \u201cempowered\u201d for \u201cbossy\u201d. This isn\u2019t the sort of learner we\u2019re talking about. Actually, the empowered learner approaches learning with confidence, curiosity, and excitement, and much of their learning is self-directed, rather than taught.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s up to training managers to identify who these empowered learners are, and then to utilize their qualities and behavior in a way that <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">empowers the learning experience<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for all.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Let\u2019s start by discussing the identifiable <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">qualities of empowered learners<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>1) A Self-directed Approach to Learning<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of the first major <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">qualities of empowered learners<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is that they\u2019re the captain of their learning journey and assume full responsibility for their own development.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They start this journey by evaluating their learning needs, either with or without the assistance of others. And when <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">training and development opportunities<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> arise, they\u2019re first in line to get on board.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thanks to advances in<\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.efrontlearning.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> eLearning technologies<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and simple search engines like Google, the curious mind is more satisfied than ever. Well, consider the new insights that a Sales Consultant might learn when they need to stand in for an ill Customer Service employee. The drive, motivation, and curiosity of these learners mean that they\u2019re looking for opportunities to learn new skills or technologies before you\u2019re even offering them!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Because<strong> empowered learners are always learning through experiences<\/strong>, they often require less formal training. And when they do participate in formal training, their motivation to learn usually results in improved training outcomes.
