Employees that we need to attract, develop and retain in an increasingly open and competitive talent market.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Enter, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the employee experience<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. An amalgamation of a variety of elements of culture, engagement, and meaningful work. The <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">complete<\/span><\/i> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">employee experience<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is one that excites, inspires and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.efrontlearning.com\/blog\/2016\/10\/6-effective-employee-engagement-strategies.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>engages employees<\/strong><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>The Consumerization of HR<\/h2>\n<p>The concept of employee experience draws inspiration from a more widely familiar term \u2013<strong> customer experience.<\/strong> The definition of customer experience is generally accepted to be the <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">way customers perceive their experience with a company<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So, just as a rude Sales Consultant might tarnish a customer\u2019s perception of a brand, a bad experience during a recruitment interview might have a negative impact on an employee\u2019s perception of the company.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What this means is that companies need to<strong> build an employee brand proposition.<\/strong> This is a convincing argument for why an employee should <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">want<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to belong to your company, and what makes you different from all of the other companies out there in the world searching for top talent. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But apart from the concept of customer experience, and the adoption of an employee brand proposition,<strong> the consumerization of HR is taking shape in a number of customer experience strategy tools.<\/strong> Like journey maps and needs-based segmentation.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Employee experience journey mapping<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is the process of mapping out the steps in an employee\u2019s interactions and experiences with a company. Some of the key areas of engagement, or interactions that matter, in the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">employee experience journey<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> include joining the company, onboarding, changing roles, and managing family emergencies.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Needs-based segmentation<\/strong> is the complex process of grouping employees based on their highest wants and needs in order to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">improve the employee experience<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Design Thinking<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of the most influential foundations of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">employee experience strategy<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is design thinking. Dr. Farson, psychologist, educator and author of The Power of Design,\u00a0<\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.inc.com\/linda-naiman\/6-ways-hr-applies-design-thinking-to-deliver-engaging-employee-experiences.html\">explains this well<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Design, the creation of form, has the power to transform culture, ignite education, foster community, and even broker peace. The design achieves its power because it can create situations, and a situation is more determining of what people will actually do that is personality, character, habit, genetics, unconscious motives or any other aspect of our individual makeup.<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>This approach says that employee experience design<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has a lot to do with the situation and less to do with the person themselves. So just as a poorly designed traffic intersection would lead to high crash rates,<strong> a poorly <\/strong><\/span><strong>designed experience<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong> would lead to more unhappy, less productive employees<\/strong> who perceive the company in a negative light.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Likewise, just as few people would wear a swimsuit to a wedding, a well-designed <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">experience<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for employees is likely to create situations where employees are inclined to behave and perceive things in a positive way.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These are experiences that excite and inspire employees to feel good, to innovate, to behave constructively and seek enrichment. But disappointingly, only 22% feel that they\u2019re actually good at building a differentiated <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">experience<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Worse, almost 60% don\u2019t feel fully ready to address this challenge.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So what\u2019s the problem?<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Well, there are up to 20 key building blocks of the ultimate employee experience<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. And just to complicate things a little more, this requires a healthy balance of digital flexibility and human-centricity. With a heavy digital influence in the workplace (and everywhere), digital solutions need to be designed for humans, to be a simple, intuitive and enjoyable experience with technology.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But, for every problem, there\u2019s usually a simple solution. And this time, it\u2019s eLearning! Because 5 of the 20 building blocks of staff experience are related to employee learning, training, and development. Here\u2019s the breakdown:<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>1.Investment in the Development of Managers<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Managers, whether managing people or managing operations, serve a pivotal role in connecting the people and systems on the ground floor, to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.efrontlearning.com\/blog\/2017\/08\/effective-workforce-development-strategies.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>strategy<\/strong><\/a> on the top floor.
