That&#8217;s, like, so 2016. Today, all the cool eLearning pros are using eFront 5, which brings with it a freshly redesigned user interface and lots of exciting new features.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>As the version bump reveals,<\/strong> this is not one of the frequent point updates our hard working developers churn out, but rather a major platform upgrade.<\/p>\n<p>This means that more and bigger goodies are included, but also that several aspects of the platform have been rethought and revamped.<\/p>\n<p><strong>We are going to give you a rundown of the major new features and workflow changes present in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.efrontlearning.com\/features\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">eFront 5<\/a> in the next section,<\/strong> but please make sure that you also read the release update notice at the end of this post to understand how the changes may affect your system.<\/p>\n<p>All in all, we are pretty sure that you are going to love the new changes \u2015 after all we have based them on your feedback and use cases.<\/p>\n<h3>What&#8217;s new<\/h3>\n<p><strong>First, here&#8217;s what&#8217;s not new: eFront 5 has kept the same no-nonsense, simple to use, philosophy<\/strong> that has been guiding its development from its early days.<\/p>\n<p><strong>We didn&#8217;t feel like just giving eFront a purely cosmetic UI facelift and calling it a day,<\/strong> and neither did we want to disrupt the workflows you know and love (the one&#8217;s that attracted you to eFront in the first place) just for the sake of it.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, we focused on improving everything &#8212; UI, workflows, interactions, platform backend, in our sparkly new eFront 5.<\/p>\n<div class=\"click-to-x\">\n                <blockquote>eFront 5 has kept the same no-nonsense, simple to use, philosophy<\/blockquote>\n                <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/intent\/post?text=eFront%205%20has%20kept%20the%20same%20no-nonsense%2C%20simple%20to%20use%2C%20philosophy&#038;via=efrontlearning&#038;related=efrontlearning&#038;url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.efrontlearning.com%2Fblog%2F2017%2F08%2Fefrontpro-5-release.html\" target=\"_blank\">\n                    <span>Share on <\/span>\n                    <svg width=\"17.6px\" height=\"18px\" viewBox=\"0 0 17.6 18\" xmlns=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\">\n                        <path d=\"M10.5,7.6L17,0h-1.6L9.8,6.6L5.2,0H0l6.9,10L0,18h1.6l6-7l4.8,7h5.2L10.5,7.6L10.5,7.6z M8.4,10.1l-0.7-1\n                        L2.1,1.2h2.4L9,7.6l0.7,1l5.8,8.3h-2.4L8.4,10.1L8.4,10.1z\"><\/path>\n                    <\/svg>\n                <\/a>\n            <\/div>\n<h3>New User Interface<\/h3>\n<p><strong>We have revamped eFront 5\u2019s user interface to make it more modern,<\/strong> and, even more importantly, to make it even more user friendly. This change spans every UI element, in both the online administrative pages and the instructor and learner-facing ones.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-5903\" src=\"https:\/\/www.efrontlearning.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/unnamed.png\" alt=\"eFront 5 Update Released \u2013 eFront Blog\" width=\"795\" height=\"476\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.efrontlearning.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/unnamed.png 1948w, https:\/\/www.efrontlearning.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/unnamed-300x180.png 300w, https:\/\/www.efrontlearning.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/unnamed-768x460.png 768w, https:\/\/www.efrontlearning.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/unnamed-1024x614.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.efrontlearning.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/unnamed-810x486.png 810w, https:\/\/www.efrontlearning.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/unnamed-1140x684.png 1140w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 795px) 100vw, 795px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>The most important UI changes in eFront 5 include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A rethought and redesigned <a href=\"https:\/\/efront.zendesk.com\/hc\/en-us\/articles\/114094826771-What-is-the-difference-between-the-Catalog-and-the-Main-Catalog\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Course Catalog<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li>A better organized Portal header, giving user easier access to profile information and communication options<\/li>\n<li>Replacing our previous system icons with a custom modern <a href=\"https:\/\/efront.zendesk.com\/hc\/en-us\/articles\/115000253271--How-to-update-dashboard-icons\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>icon set<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li>More streamlined Course view pages that put emphasis where it matters<\/li>\n<li>A redesigned, more intuitive and practical, Admin interface<\/li>\n<li>Better organized System Settings<\/li>\n<li>Reduced UI clutter thanks to the merging and\/or removal or redundant and duplicate menus and controls<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Merging of Courses and Lessons<\/h3>\n<p>Separating Lessons from courses seemed liked a good idea at the time, but what little flexibility it offered came at the cost of extra complexity.<\/p>\n<p><strong>eFront 5 finally integrates Lessons within Courses,<\/strong> giving you a single, logical, hierarchy for your learning content.<\/p>\n<p>You can, of course, continue to use <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/efront.zendesk.com\/hc\/en-us\/articles\/114094004411-How-to-access-the-Lessons-library-and-add-one-to-your-Course\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lessons<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>as content repositories throughout the system, and build Courses by combining content from different lessons.<\/p>\n<h3>Flow changes<\/h3>\n<p>Our Course management features have always been very powerful, but their layout and terminology could sometimes confuse new Instructors.<\/p>\n<p>In eFront 5 we have made <strong>several major simplifications to the course creation process and streamlined the traversal flow options.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>Custom reports<\/h3>\n<p>You asked for it, you&#8217;ve got it: <strong>eFront 5 comes with a<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/efront.zendesk.com\/hc\/en-us\/articles\/115000674012-How-to-set-up-custom-reports\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>custom report generator<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5879\" src=\"https:\/\/www.efrontlearning.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Screen-Shot-2017-07-31-at-11.01.51.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"403\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.efrontlearning.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Screen-Shot-2017-07-31-at-11.01.51.png 800w, https:\/\/www.efrontlearning.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Screen-Shot-2017-07-31-at-11.01.51-300x151.png 300w, https:\/\/www.efrontlearning.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Screen-Shot-2017-07-31-at-11.01.51-768x387.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Custom pages<\/h3>\n<p>Since its introduction, eFront&#8217;s <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/efront.zendesk.com\/hc\/en-us\/articles\/114094833751-How-to-use-the-Site-builder\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">custom page builder<\/a> <\/strong>has been a popular feature, but it was always quite basic. Not anymore, though, as this release comes with a<strong> revamped custom page engine<\/strong> that offers you additional flexibility.<\/p>\n<h3>Integrated Help<\/h3>\n<p>Wouldn&#8217;t it be great if you had access all the support and knowledge base documents you need without having to leave your eLearning portal?<\/p>\n<p>It would, and it is: as of eFront 5,<strong> the <a href=\"https:\/\/efront.zendesk.com\/hc\/en-us\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Knowledge base<\/a> and support system is available within the platform<\/strong> and immediately accessible to administrative accounts.<\/p>\n<div class=\"click-to-x\">\n                <blockquote>Get access to all support and knowledge base documents without leaving your eLearning portal<\/blockquote>\n                <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/intent\/post?text=Get%20access%20to%20all%20support%20and%20knowledge%20base%20documents%20without%20leaving%20your%20eLearning%20portal&#038;via=efrontlearning&#038;related=efrontlearning&#038;url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.efrontlearning.com%2Fblog%2F2017%2F08%2Fefrontpro-5-release.html\" target=\"_blank\">\n                    <span>Share on <\/span>\n                    <svg width=\"17.6px\" height=\"18px\" viewBox=\"0 0 17.6 18\" xmlns=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\">\n                        <path d=\"M10.5,7.6L17,0h-1.6L9.8,6.6L5.2,0H0l6.9,10L0,18h1.6l6-7l4.8,7h5.2L10.5,7.6L10.5,7.6z M8.4,10.1l-0.7-1\n                        L2.1,1.2h2.4L9,7.6l0.7,1l5.8,8.3h-2.4L8.4,10.1L8.4,10.1z\"><\/path>\n                    <\/svg>\n                <\/a>\n            <\/div>\n<h3>Things to consider:<\/h3>\n<p><strong>As this is a major update release with many changes in both the user interface and the platform,<\/strong> some things will look different.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Your familiar features are still all there<\/strong> (alongside all the new ones), but some functionality might need to be accessed in a different way.<\/p>\n<h3>The biggest such changes to be aware of are:<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1) <a href=\"https:\/\/efront.zendesk.com\/hc\/en-us\/articles\/114094006972-How-to-edit-your-CSS-for-your-own-theme\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CSS customizations<\/a> <\/strong>created for eFront version 4 may not work as expected due to the the large number of UI<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/efront.zendesk.com\/hc\/en-us\/articles\/114094001791--How-to-customize-your-learning-portal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">modifications<\/a>.<\/strong> The same stands for custom pages &amp; blocks. That said, all the same mechanisms for theming are supported, so it should be easy to re-adjust your CSS to support eFront 5.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2)<\/strong> Existing plugins should continue to work as expected but the visual presentation and position of options may have been altered to fit the new platform.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3) <\/strong>eFront&#8217;s web-based Offline mode has been deprecated. You can still access your eFront courses offline through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.talentlms.com\/mobile\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>native mobile app<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Conclusion<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Excited?
