It\u2019s now time to edit and publish your podcast for a professional result!<\/p>\n<p>First step is to download <a href=\"http:\/\/audacity.sourceforge.net\/download\/\" target=\"_blank\">Audacity<\/a> &amp; <a href=\"http:\/\/download.cnet.com\/AoA-Audio-Extractor\/3000-2170_4-10605079.html\" target=\"_blank\">AoA Audio Extractor<\/a>, and if you would like to use introductory and closing music you can find links to free resources <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.efrontlearning.net\/2011\/06\/royalty-free-music-for-elearning.html\" target=\"_blank\">in this post<\/a>.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Two things must be done before you begin:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>First, use AoA Audio Extractor to extract your file from GoToMeeting (or other recording tool) &amp; convert to \u201cWAV\u201d. Note: if your recording tool allows you to export your file automatically to \u201cWAV\u201d you can skip the first step.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 1: Convert your file to \u201cWAV\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol start=\"1\">\n<li>Extract \u2018video\u2019 files (those obtained from\u00a0GoToMeeting, i.e. the podcasters recording) &amp; convert to audio using\u00a0Audio Extractor (AoA)<\/li>\n<li>Click add files, choose file<\/li>\n<li>Output options: check\u00a0 export \u201cto WAV\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Step 2: Familiarize yourself with Audacity by visiting any of the following<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Audacity Quick Help (should be installed locally, internet version if it isn&#8217;t)<\/li>\n<li>Audacity Manual (should be installed locally, internet version if it isn&#8217;t)<\/li>\n<li>Audacity Wiki (the latest tips, tricks and tutorials, on the internet)<\/li>\n<li>Audacity Forum (ask your question directly, on the internet)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Once you have a basic idea of how to navigate Audacity (it\u2019s quite intuitive so if you\u2019re a hands-on person you won\u2019t need much time to get the hang of it) it\u2019s time to \u2018organize\u2019 your audio files.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Generally a podcast is composed of the following:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol start=\"1\">\n<li>General intro with music [file]<\/li>\n<li>Introducing the speaker [record this in advance]<\/li>\n<li>Speaker\u2019s response to greeting<\/li>\n<li>Host asking 1<sup>st<\/sup> question \/ 2<sup>nd<\/sup>\u00a0\u00a0\/ 3<sup>rd<\/sup> \/ 4<sup>th<\/sup> etc. [steps 4 &amp; 5 repeat]<\/li>\n<li>Speaker\u2019s answer<\/li>\n<li>After final answer, Host\u2019s concluding remark [record this in advance]<\/li>\n<li>Speaker\u2019s response to closing remark<\/li>\n<li>Host\u2019s concluding remark [record this in advance]<\/li>\n<li>General closing with music [file]<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>With this organization in mind, open Audacity and start to import your files. The following approach will take you step-by-step through the process of importing and editing your audio files using Audacity.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Use Audacity to import audio files &amp; edit <\/strong><\/p>\n<ol start=\"1\">\n<li>Go to\u00a0 File\u00a0&gt; Import &gt; Audio &gt; Import WAV file (podcast recording only to start with)<\/li>\n<li>Import Intro WAV<\/li>\n<li>Place the intro where it should be (drag it)<\/li>\n<li>Listen to raw file (recording) and delete (cut)\u00a0what won\u2019t be included in the final podcast<\/li>\n<li>You can re-record host questions and insert\u00a0them if you are not happy with recording quality. If doing so cut the\u00a0questions out of the raw file<\/li>\n<li>If you have imported questions (step 5), insert\u00a0where they should be<\/li>\n<li>Import closing and insert where it should be<\/li>\n<li>When you\u2019re done with first edit (see below) click: File &gt; Save project as &gt; &amp; copy selected audio into project<\/li>\n<li>Save projects regularly so that you can go back to an earlier edit if you need to<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Editing sound quality using Audacity<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To increase or decrease volume: use mute\/ solo<\/li>\n<li>To delete background noise: select noise profile (a selected \u201cquiet\u201d part \u2013 i.e. a flat line -of the recording that contains ONLY the noise you want to delete) &gt; effect &gt; noise removal &gt; \u201cget noise profile\u201d<\/li>\n<li>To apply noise profile to a section of recording (to remove that noise) you must select the whole section and apply profile: effect &gt; noise removal &gt; OK<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>When finished to save your edited podcast:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Go to: File &gt; export either as WAV or MP3<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>With your edited WAV or MP3 files, you can upload your podcast to your blog and share widely through your social networks!<\/p>\n<p>If you have any questions or podcast recording\/editing suggestions please share them with us in comments!<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, happy podcasting \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p><strong>UPDATE:\u00a0<\/strong>Did you know we now have our own podcast channel sharing short and useful podcasts on various topics on elearning?<\/p>\n<p>You can check it out here:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/podcast\/elearning-today-by-efront\/id968352763?mt=2\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/podcast\/elearning-today-by-efront\/id968352763?mt=2<\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So you\u2019ve gone through the steps of creating a podcast series and you have your first recording in hand.
