Here\u2019s a snapshot of some of\u00a0the benefits to you:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Empowering and motivating your workforce with training that slots simultaneously\u00a0into their work routine, without depriving employees of desk time in the office.<\/li>\n<li>Functional, engaging learning that can be revisited when convenient.<\/li>\n<li>Tailored to every part of your workforce\u2019s individual, distinct requirements.<\/li>\n<li>Affordable, fully manageable in-house and adaptable.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>But how can you scale your eLearning investment effectively?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I &#8211; with the help of a little research &#8211; can help you there.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>eLearning is Growing; Scale With It<\/h2>\n<p>eLearning is growing (just take a peek at the diagram below), and you need to learn\u00a0where to invest your learning and development (L&amp;D) money, fast.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2698 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.efrontlearning.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/LMS-Investment-Breakdown-1.png\" alt=\"LMS-Investment-Breakdown\" width=\"675\" height=\"407\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Expected 2015 Investment in LMS Software (Sample of US HR Professionals) &#8211; Source: Learning Management Systems Userview 2015, Software Advice<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.marketsandmarkets.com\/Market-Reports\/learning-management-systems-market-1266.html\" target=\"_blank\">The LMS market is expected to grow from $2.55 billion in 2013 to $7.83 billion in 2018<\/a>\u00a0and from a wider perspective, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.strategyr.com\/eLEARNING_Market_Report.asp\" target=\"_blank\">the global eLearning sector is expected to reach an\u00a0estimated worth of $107 billion in 2015.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Clearly, now is the time to focus on ROI as you expand your eLearning L&amp;D plan.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In this article I\u2019ve collaborated with an industry expert and colleague of mine, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ricardoyorks\" target=\"_blank\">Richard\u00a0Anderson<\/a>, and examined a few different sources of industry research to understand how\u00a0and where you should be investing your eLearning allocated L&amp;D budget.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s begin with which particular eLearning techniques you should be incorporating into\u00a0your <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.efrontlearning.com\/blog\/2016\/03\/6-important-considerations-when-building-your-corporate-training-strategy.html\" target=\"_blank\">online corporate training\u00a0strategy<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Getting the most out of your LMS starts here, and from using the following techniques,\u00a0you\u2019ll benefit from increased success in your staff training programs.<\/p>\n<h2>eLearning Techniques You Should be Using<\/h2>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Concise, conversational content<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>First and foremost, eLearning course content should fulfil the purpose of its use (i.e.\u00a0enhancing an employee\u2019s relevant knowledge for their job role).<\/p>\n<p><em>But educational content doesn\u2019t need to be complex and detailed!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>How to implement:<\/strong> The days of endlessly clicking next are coming to an end;\u00a0consumable bites are more important than long modules. Content should be easy to\u00a0navigate, enjoyable to read and collated in manageable chunks.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Making your content informal, friendly and even a little chatty will aid you\u00a0massively in engaging your users with the course.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Adopt a more conversational tone when writing your courses from now &#8211; as a guide,\u00a0think of how a manager would chat with one of his employees, rather than the kind of\u00a0language typically found in a textbook.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Searchable &amp; tailored training<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Managing your company&#8217;s internal eLearning software allows you to tailor your training\u00a0program to particular divisions, departments, projects, teams &#8211; even drill down as far as\u00a0personalising it to individual employees!<\/p>\n<p>However, despite our best efforts to tailor training to our employee\u2019s individual needs, it\u00a0is probable that material which covers existing knowledge will slip through.<\/p>\n<p>This discrepancy between the knowledge we desire our workforce to possess and the\u00a0knowledge they already possess creates a barrier to learning for some of your\u00a0workforce.<\/p>\n<p>More damagingly, it tarnishes the social element of eLearning &#8211; we\u2019ll cover that a bit\u00a0later.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How to implement:<\/strong> Establishing each training user\u2019s initial knowledge level is time\u00a0consuming and unrealistic. For most companies, this is not the solution.<\/p>\n<p><em>No<\/em> &#8211; instead, to enhance content to the necessary level, it should be made searchable\u00a0for ease of locating relevant content.<\/p>\n<p>The rationale behind this is that our tech savvy generation are able to search sites like\u00a0YouTube, and expect to be able to do the same with their training courses.<\/p>\n<p>Searchable content means that training users with existing expertise can search for\u00a0knowledge gaps to save time and frustration, whilst users with little prior knowledge can\u00a0proceed through the entire course as intended.<\/p>\n<p><strong>It\u2019s beneficial for users at all learning stages.<\/strong> Even users who have absolutely no\u00a0knowledge of the subject may find one area in particular quite difficult to understand, and\u00a0can quickly navigate to this area time and again to solidify their expertise in this area.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Incorporating engaging offline learning aspects<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Establishing a regular online meeting where a manager or external tutor can explain\u00a0some of the topics in more detail can be a big help in retaining training users&#8217; interest.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How to implement:<\/strong> The key here is to communicate this aspect of the course as a\u00a0support mechanism.<\/p>\n<p>Course features that draw from offline methods such as this should only be\u00a0supplementary elements of the course which users do not <strong>need<\/strong> to uptake if they feel\u00a0that they entirely understand the course and do not require assistance.<\/p>\n<p>Not all your training users will enjoy the thought of this &#8211; remember, they agreed to learn\u00a0via eLearning, and you don\u2019t want to force anyone into learning in a way that they didn\u2019t\u00a0originally express interest in.<\/p>\n<p>For those who are interested, the online meetings could be conducted weekly or more\u00a0frequently if necessary.<\/p>\n<p>Video streaming of the manager\/tutor, along with active, live comments from session\u00a0viewers, allows for learners to benefit from a more social, interactive learning\u00a0experience.<\/p>\n<p>That leads us quite nicely on to our next technique.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Cultivating a social eLearning experience<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Your LMS should exist as a \u2018lobby\u2019 in which students can engage with each other,\u00a0sharing opinions and perspectives, posing questions, addressing issues and assisting\u00a0one another throughout the learning process.<\/p>\n<p>The theory behind this is that with the ability to challenge one another throughout the\u00a0learning experience, the entire process of learning will be enhanced if made as\u00a0collaborative, open and social as possible.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How to implement:<\/strong> Messages of encouragement could be posted by tutors and your\u00a0LMS could also host peer-reviews of resources and materials.<\/p>\n<p>There are so many resources available from which training users can further their\u00a0knowledge, so, whether they\u2019re sharing articles or simply discussing course content, the\u00a0social side of your eLearning is an important learning booster that could just give your\u00a0organisation the edge.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Assessing your employee\u2019s knowledge<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The multiple choice exam still remains the best way of testing applied knowledge.<\/p>\n<p>For managers, multiple choice assessments provide clear guidelines as to what has or\u00a0has not been learnt.<\/p>\n<p>From a quick look at the statistics for each question, you can easily identify any\u00a0problems that your workforce are encountering, and subsequently seek to address the\u00a0issue.<\/p>\n<p>Allow me to provide an example to illustrate this.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Example<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>One group of employees in Spain were struggling with the \u2018Cheques\u2019 section of a\u00a0money-laundering eLearning course that they were undertaking as part of their training.<\/p>\n<p>It was soon established that staff were struggling to get to grips with this particular area\u00a0as it had no relevance to their actual job roles. As a result, management were able to\u00a0react to this and alter the course accordingly.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How to implement:<\/strong> Multiple choice questions should be a standard feature of any\u00a0competent LMS; if you\u2019re dissatisfied with your current LMS, why not <a href=\"http:\/\/www.efrontlearning.net\/tour\" target=\"_blank\">take a tour of\u00a0eFront\u2019s LMS features?<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Our eLearning Program is ready, what now?<\/h2>\n<p>Following these simple directions will aid you in maintaining the most resourceful\u00a0eLearning program. However, this is only the beginning.<\/p>\n<p>The diagram below displays just how expansive the array of eLearning methods\u00a0available to us &#8211; as employers &#8211; is:<\/p>\n<div><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2699\" src=\"http:\/\/www.efrontlearning.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/eLearning-Methods-1.jpg\" alt=\"eLearning-Methods\" width=\"749\" height=\"431\" \/><\/div>\n<p>What you must decide is what\u2019s most appropriate for your particular industry &#8211; for your\u00a0business, culture, and workforce.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Research can however give you a nudge in the right direction:<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>eLearning Trends in Specific Business Areas<\/h2>\n<p>So, now that you\u2019ve streamlined your company&#8217;s eLearning program, you\u2019ll find yourself\u00a0re-investing in this revolutionary training tool year on year (YoY).<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>But in which area of your business will eLearning be most effective?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2700 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.efrontlearning.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/eLearning-by-Industry-1.png\" alt=\"eLearning-by-Industry\" width=\"357\" height=\"336\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This table shows us which industries LMS software is being invested in.<\/p>\n<p>From its results, we can make certain inferences as to why eLearning is more popular in\u00a0some business areas and industries than others.<\/p>\n<p>Unsurprisingly, industries such as retail in which skills remain broadly practical, verbal\u00a0and face-to-face have little investment in eLearning as a training tool.<\/p>\n<p>From my personal opinion, industries such as Manufacturing will receive higher\u00a0investment YoY as these processes become increasingly automated.<\/p>\n<p>Areas highly dependent on technical know-how which can be easily delivered with\u00a0eLearning courses &#8211; such as Technology and Financial services &#8211; are investing the most\u00a0in eLearning software.<\/p>\n<p>Could this trend in investment be replicated internally within your business?<\/p>\n<p>Departments with needs similar to those of IT and Finance will benefit the most from\u00a0eLearning as a concept.<\/p>\n<h2>Summary<\/h2>\n<p>Unfortunately there appears to be little research in eLearning investment by industry or\u00a0department, but utilising all the above research, you\u2019ll be able to commence streamlining\u00a0your eLearning L&amp;D strategy successfully.<\/p>\n<p>Adhering to the principles I\u2019ve described above will enable you to develop your\u00a0eLearning program, whilst maintaining its use and purpose &#8211; right down to the individual\u00a0level.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key takeaways:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>eLearning is growing; your L&amp;D strategy must be sufficiently robust for successful\u00a0scaling.<\/li>\n<li>Content should be snappy, searchable and conversational in tone; this way, it\u2019ll\u00a0be enjoyable to navigate, read, engage and learn from.<\/li>\n<li>Treat every area &#8211; whether that\u2019s standalone employees or an international\u00a0division &#8211; with individual compassion.
